You’re options for staying cool are limited when you’re sweltering in the Bangkok heat. A) Head for the beach. B) Cruise the Chao Phraya River. C) Take a dip in the pool. Well a swimming pool is nice and all, but what do you do with you want to kick it up a notch? You go surfing! The Flow House in Bangkok is a nice alternative to staying cool. Here you will experience urban surfing at its finest on the FlowRider
WHAT IS FLOW HOUSE:
The Flow House is where you go when you are looking for thrills. It’s an urban surf center that offers excitement for all ages and all skill levels. Just imagine standing on a small wake board while gliding over a sheet of water. That my friends is the Flow House, home of the FlowRider. It’s an hour of pure energy and excitement, not to mention that you will definitely get a workout.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE FLOWRIDER
It doesn’t matter your skill level. The Flow House can accommodate you. I had no experience what so ever the day I tried urban surfing. They start you slow. On my first time urban surfing, I was introduced on a boogie board. Apparently that’s easier. Personally, I didn’t enjoy that as much. They teach you how to stay afloat initially and not wipe out. After your quick lesson, they send you out to ride.
My first time out, I ended up wiping out when large amounts of water being crammed down my throat because someone forgot to close their mouth. After the second or third time, I began to get the hang of it. It is then they move you to the next level, on the FlowRider, by having you put your knees on the boogie board. Eventually they evolve you to being on the boogie board without your hands holding the board.
When you get to that level is when they move you up to the actual surfboard. Now, unless you are just naturally talented, you can assume you are going to wipe out on your first try of the FlowRider. I think it took me 4 tries before I could stay on the board for more than 5 seconds. From there it’s just a regular progression. Each time you get out there, the better you get. Don’t be afraid to try some tricks. You will inevitably fall a few times, but eventually you will get it.
OVERALL FLOW HOUSE EXPERIENCE:
Overall, the Flow House is an awesome experience. If you are looking for something fun to do while you are in a super hot place, urban surfing is the solution. Just be prepared to be sore the next day when you fall. My neck was a little stiff afterwards. If you have any sort of back or neck injury, this is one experience you might want to skip.
AND NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS:
I did urban surfing back in February, but never got around to writing about it until just now. Sadly, while researching and writing about the urban surfing, I learned that the Flow House in Bangkok will be closing soon. That’s too bad because it was an incredible experience. The good news is, if you are interested in trying the urban surfing there are other places you can do so. My next place to experience the FlowRider will be in Manila. Hopefully they don’t close that one anytime soon. If you do try it, please let me know what you thought by leaving a comment below and please share with anyone you think would appreciate this article.
