If you visit Sydney during the summer, “Be prepared to fry”, is all I have to say about the matter. The sun is intense and yet it’s so amazing there, but not without a price. It’s hot and you’re gonna wanna stay cool. The best place to do that, especially if you have kids, is to visit Wottamolla Falls. This is the place to go for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. It has everything an active or overgrown kid could want:
- There is a bay to swim in.
- There’s a small stream which is perfect for river surfing.
- There are cliffs that are perfect for cliff diving.
GREAT SUN BATHING AT WOTTAMOLLA FALLS:
Also, for the not as active people, there is plenty of beach to sprawl out and work on your tan. There is plenty of space to lay out a towel or blanket to watch the cliff divers jump into the water. If you are looking for something a bit more secluded, Wattamolla has that too. Wattamolla falls is situated about an hour away from Sydney. We drove out to the beach, but I’m relatively certain you can catch a train to the location as well.
CLIFF JUMPING AT WOTTAMOLLA FALLS:
Let me forewarn you, cliff diving can be dangerous so if you jump at Wottamolla Falls, you do so at your own risk. There are two bases in which to jump from. One which is not so high, and another that’s insanely high, in my opinion. When you first get to Wottamolla Falls, you will notice is the higher base. I’m not sure how high the base is from the water, but I can tell you that it’s high enough to hurt you if you don’t go in the water straight. At first glance, I was intimidated by the height of the falls. I wasn’t so sure I was going to jump. I decided to make my way down to the bottom of the falls so I could make an assessment and determine if I would jump.
EASE YOURSELF INTO JUMPING AT WOTTAMOLLA FALLS:
After looking over the falls, I decided to jump from the lower base. Getting on top of the base was tricky, because the rocks are lined with algae. If you are in shape, it will be no problem to pull yourself out of the water, onto the rock. If you are in poor shape, it could prove interesting, and there are plenty of people around to watch so if you shy easily, keep that in mind. My main concern was not falling and making myself look like a fool, because the only people jumping that day at Wottamolla Falls were tweens. Once I got to the top of the lower base and convinced myself to jump, I was hooked. I went straight to the higher base immediately after that and didn’t look back.
IN CONCLUSION ABOUT WOTTAMOLLA FALLS:
I highly recommend Wattamolla falls for anyone with over active kids that are looking to swim, river surf, or dive. There is something for everyone here and you won’t be disappointed.
